FOURTH GENERATION MONTANAN

In the late 1800s, my great, great grandfather came west from Missouri and settled with his family in a wooded area near Alberton. He was drawn to Western Montana, he said, by the power and beauty of the Rocky Mountain front.

His grandson (my paternal grandfather) owned and operated a small sawmill on the property, which paved the way for my father's introduction to the wood products industry. When I was a child, my dad's work took my family to various Montana locations including the community of Seeley Lake, which is just down the road from here.

My husband, Andy, is a geologist who has spent his entire post-college career exploring for gold in Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador. Just after he and I bought this land, our son, Ben, came for a visit. He took a long look at the majestic, snow-capped peaks surrounding our beautiful lodge and said, "Dad has finally found his motherlode." The name Oro Ranch was born.

Waking up each day in our “Last Best Place”, I feel like I've come full circle. My husband and I are truly blessed to have a piece of paradise, and we love sharing it with others. Our dedication to preserving our beloved Montana heritage and the flora and fauna that surrounds us would make all of my descendants proud.

Come see us soon,
Deborah and Andy Carstensen
